WHAT IS A TECH EDITOR AND WHY DO YOU NEED ONE (me).

You’ve been crocheting for a while–maybe a long while and you have an idea. An idea for a thing. Maybe it is similar to other things you have seen or it has never been seen before in the world of crochet. This idea for this thing has been whirling and swirling around in your mind for a while and it needs to be expressed! So you crochet your thing, you really like it and other people like it too–so much so that people who crochet also want to make your thing. So, you write a pattern for it. This is where a tech editor (me) comes into the picture.

“Kikelomo was a pleasure to work with throughout the review. Her feedback on my pattern was excellent and her comments clear, on point and politely and respectfully communicated. Kikelomo has an eye for detail and spotted all the inconsistencies and made excellent suggestions for improvement. I really appreciated her help correcting my punctuation and grammar. The corrections were clear and it was easy for me to make the edits. Kikelomo’s communication was always polite and timely and her service exceeded my expectations.”

Trying to write out instructions can be frustrating. When you know something like the back of your hand, it can take a while to stop and think about exactly WHAT and HOW to do what you're doing, step by step, when attempting to explain it to someone else. Pattern writing is just that–a detailed explanation of what and how to do what you need to get a desired object/effect, all written out. Using a Tech Editor can make the process of writing a crochet pattern a lot easier for any level of design, from straightforward to complex.

“What a delight it was to work with Kikelomo as she Tech Edited my pattern. With a clear grasp of the crochet process and terms, her feedback and suggestions were timely, well thought out and served up in a way that drove a conversation. As she began to understand my style of pattern writing, we quickly got into a groove that helped me produce a better pattern. From one Tech Editor to another, I would work with her again!”

MY FEES AND TIMETABLE:

Currently, my fee for individual clients is $15.00 per hour, with a 2 hour minimum. After this I charge in 30 minute segments at $7.50 per. I will invoice you separately for each editing pass. I will do a final 15 min look over of your finalized pattern for free, once you have decided you are finished with editing. If you wish to send your pattern to testers after the initial series of edits and then send it back to me, I will start a new invoice for you at 30 minutes per.

First we’ll have a brief consultation– you will send me a copy of your pattern (PDF, Word, or Google Docs is fine and any other format can be discussed) to look over and I will send you back an email of my estimated timeline for your project. Once we have agreed, I require a deposit of $30.00 before I start any work. Once/if I have passed  four hours of work, I will contact you via email to give you a clearer estimate of how much time/ how many editing passes I think your project needs. At that  point, you can decide whether you would like to proceed.

My preferred method of payment is Venmo, but if you have another preferred method please call or email me to discuss.

My current turnaround is 5-7 business days per editing pass (Monday through Friday). If you need a shorter turn-around time please contact me prior to sending me your pattern to ensure that this is possible.

I reserve the right to change my turnaround time based on workload and personal schedule.  I will keep my current turnaround times updated on this site and will contact you directly if there is a change in schedule for your project in process.

If you would like for me to create charts and/or diagram/schematic drawings, I will invoice you separately at the same hourly rate and require a separate deposit of $30.00 to start this specific work.

Hope to hear from you!
